When I was in 7th grade, I watched as my first black and white print appeared in a tray of developer. It was magic and I was hooked. (It was also a photo of me that I won’t share here.) Photography has been a passion of mine ever since. Eventually I convinced my high school to allow me to reopen the school's darkroom and to give me the key! After a couple of years of photographing the city around me, my classmates, my rugby team and really, anyone else I could find, I began freelancing for newspapers such as the weekly The Vanguard Press, and dailies, The Burlington Free Press, The Boston Globe and The New York Times, and countless smaller community newspapers.
As digital photography was arriving on scene, I was in school at the Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Imaging Arts and Sciences, getting my grubby little hands on the first Nikon and Kodak digital cameras. Upon graduation, I landed my first staff photography job at The Burlington Free Press, in part to assist them with their transition from film to digital photography. Ten years later, I left the Free Press as a photo editor and I’m currently running the Medical Photography studio at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
Photojournalism and documentary photography are my main interests. I love to meet people and I love the opening into their lives that photography and story telling provides.
I’m an active member of the following photography organizations:
National Press Photographers Association, past member of the Board of Directors
Wedding Photojournalist Association,
Vermont Association of Wedding Professionals.
I consider myself lucky to live in beautiful Essex Junction, Vermont with my wife Jennifer and our three amazing (and well photographed) daughters.
I hope you enjoy what you see here and thanks for visiting.

The pictures that Raj took were great. However, that is only part of the story. The reality is that Raj is much more than a photographer. He runs the show. As a member of the wedding party I was an insider, and watched the master at work.
He really planned the wedding without having the pre-planning experience. He just knows what to do in the moment. His relaxed style, and great sense of humor and timing puts his subjects at ease (on what could be a very stressful day).
Great job Raj! I recommend that you increase your offering. Heck of a photographer and so much more.
Beautiful photos Raj. You captured a truly beautiful day and the couple must be so thankful. Great candid moments and light. Caught the eye of this photographer!
