UVM Medical Photography Featured on WCAX-TV

Reporter Gina Bullard and photographer Joe Carroll from our local CBS affiliate WCAX are running a series on still photographers in the area and they contacted me to feature my work at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. I brought them with me as I photographed our medical students during a heart surgery with Dr. Bruce Leavitt at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Take a look at some of the photographs from the session and another portfolio gallery of my work at the UVM College of Medicine.

Also featured this week: Natalie Stultz and her Farm to Table food photography and remote flash trigger company Pocketwizard!

I spotted this gas valve while scouting for a new portrait location at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. The lab is brand new, super clean and empty. I can’t wait to shoot there. I’ll post the results soon.

An Updated Portfolio of my Medical Photography Work

I have a very cool job. I get to meet new people everyday and learn a little or a lot about them. I’m invited into their homes, their hospital rooms and their lives. I get to see people at their best and their worst. And I get to photograph them at the same time.

People always ask me what I photograph as a “medical photographer.” Take a look at this slideshow and you’ll see the past year of so from the University of Vermont College of Medicine.

Raj, your photographs show a lot of heart, as well as being technically “clean”. You obviously bring a lot of skill and humanity to your work.

I’m an ophthalmic photographer, which is a narrow niche within medical photography. Like you, I deal with people in discouraging situations, and have to coax cooperation out of them as they undergo difficult procedures.

Keep up the good work!

Photographs from my random wanderings in Philadelphia.

I’m in Philadelphia for a conference and I’m enjoying wandering around the city with my camera in between sessions. Please “Like” Rajan Chawla Phtotography on Facebook if you like what you see and to be notified when I add more.

Cancer Patient Support Program Evening Song Montage

The Cancer Patient Support Program is a non-profit organization that assists cancer patients and their families with counseling and financial services during and after their cancer treatment. Each year, they hold a black-tie fundraiser to support their efforts. Part of the program includes presenting a video montage showcasing one aspect of the great work they do. I was honored to be asked to create last year’s montage, and thrilled when they asked me to once again work with them on one for this year.
This year’s montage focused on four young cancer survivors who have benefited from the organization’s Young Survivor’s support group.

Leave your thoughts about this great organization in the comments section below.
